A pictorial of the high bridge on The Georgetown Loop Railroad
I was so happy when I bagged a photograph at Devil’s Gate taken in the snow with a narrow-gauge train crossing the bridge. Just think, Memorial Day was coming up and winter was not planning on leaving anytime soon.
Rainy days are spectacular for those dramatic skies as the little narrow-gauge train crosses high above Clear Creek.
I find the morning time the best. The light is good and sometimes the engine is running light as 111 crosses the bridge backing down to Devil’s Gate Station.
This year a diesel runs during the week and on the weekend steam takes over. The trains are full as people enjoy themselves looking down from the top of the Devil’s Gate Bridge.
Pick a year; the scenery never changes much. The only thing that might be different is the river might be a little higher in May and June, greener in the summer months and of course the trees turning a lot of color in the fall months.
The High Bridge called Devil’s Gate is one of my favorites places to photograph the narrow gauge in Colorado.
I hope this inspires you to go and photograph your favorite spot.

BEAUTIFUL !!! I always visit the loop when the weather is clear and sunny, now I know what I’ve been missing. I also have many spots where I’ve taken photos of the bridge over the years, but never tried this one. Thank you for sharing with us.
Thank you Sammy a great spot in all kinds of weather.
