My highlight on the Durango Silverton is the High Bridge. The High Bridge is a Pratt deck truss bridge over the Animas River. Built in 1894 with additional tension members added in 1981. The bridge spans 130ft and the length is 130ft.
Unless you hike in for those great shots of the bridge at the Animas River level, your best shots are on those great photo charters that the railroad does.
Your opportunities are endless for some great shots at the Bridge.
This picture was taken on 315s maiden run after her rebuild in Durango.
Sometimes if you’re lucky you can get a shot of a galloping goose coming across the bridge.
The High Bridge is also where they do a blow down cleaning the boiler as it crosses the bridge.
Every bridge angle is a photographer’s dream. The High Bridge is always a must location for photos. The High Bridge is the Durango Silverton hidden gem.
Just think you can be the curious guy with the tourist.
