A Summer Miscellany

Earlier this week, I received a brief note from our traveling correspondent, Andrew Morang. He is in Austria, and sent a couple of pictures of a local commuter train.

He writes: ” This is the regional train between Kufstein, Austria, and Munich, Germany. The train is operated by Meridian, but I do not know if that is an independent company or part of the Deutsche Bahn system. The rail cars are immaculately clean, quiet, and electrically operated. “

The annual conference of the Center for Railroad Photography & Art, Conversations 2019, is coming up in September. The conference will feature presentations by Jennifer Bodine, Gil Bennett, Barre Fong, Ben Bachman, John Free, Eric Williams, Ron Perisho, Charlie Hunter and Oren Helbok, who is a contributor to The Trackside Photographer and will have an article coming out later this month.

It is not too late to register for the conference, which will take place September 13-15 at Lake Forest College, thirty miles north of Chicago, Illinois. I hope to see some of you there!

Robert West is a railroad artist who I became familiar with through his Facebook page. He is a full-time railroad illustrator and visual historian who has been commissioned by many railroads and individuals to paint railroad subjects.

It is my firm belief that photographers and artist who share a love of railroads can learn from and inspire one another, and I think you will be inspired by this short interview with Robert.

You can see Robert’s work at Steel Rails Gallery’s website: http://www.steelrailsgalleries.com/
